WHY I TEACH

I love teaching because I view it as an important part of building empathy in society. I believe that the positive, kind influence of a teacher can make a difference in a student’s life and can set off a chain reaction of empathy and kindness in society. I hope to inspire students to continually seek after knowledge.

EDUCATIONAL BELIEFS

I believe that modeling kindness and a love of learning is one of the most important things I can do in my classroom. I put students’ social and emotional needs first. In fact, I want to create a space where students feel comfortable loving anything. Appreciation of beauty is a skill I want to build. From art, to literature, to music, I want to build appreciation and make connections. I believe that the more connections students make between school, individual classes and their own lives, the better.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

I continue to grow as an educator through reflection and continuing education. I strive to utilize collaboration as means of growth and connection. I am dedicated to continue my quest as a lifelong learner.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Classroom Lecture

HOST TEACHER

"Courtney brings a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and skills to the classroom. She is also confident
and capable of taking the reins independently, and she excels at relationship building and classroom
management. Courtney is gracefully adept at taking charge and being a leader without overstepping."

Teaching in Classroom

CLINICAL SUPERVISOR

"Another of Courtney’s attributes is her strong relationship with students. Courtney maintained control
of her classroom while allowing appropriate learning chatter and fun. She met the needs of individual
students while maintaining the flow of instruction. Because lessons were interesting and
developmentally appropriate, there was little need for correction of student behavior. It was obvious
when observing a lesson that Courtney cared about her students, and they cared about her."

Classroom

COLLEAGUE

"Courtney is extremely patient and kind. She is not one to get flustered easily. She  always takes her time before speaking, in giving advice, or in making decisions that would  impact the team. She understands very deeply that words can both harm and empower people,  so she is always mindful of the impact her communications might have on another person and  on the collective energy of the group."
